Energy management is always geared towards winter. The heat should remain in the building as much as possible. The optimisation of the energy saving potential is increasingly in the foreground when planning and renovating buildings.

ec | smart glass | 2 takes advantage of electrochromy. The term summarizes the ability of molecules and crystals to change their optical properties through an electric field or a current flow.

Our smart glass is a double or triple insulated standard glass that has been supplemented by an external electrochromic laminated glass pane. By applying a low voltage of less than 5V, the electrochromic effect is activated and the light and energy transmission can be variably controlled. This can be seen by the blue colouring and the corresponding dimming of the glass. The energy management takes place therefore directly in the glass.

The insulating glass structure is mandatory for energy management in the glass. Depending on the degree of dimming, a large part of the sunlight is absorbed and transformed into long-wave heat radiation. This in turn is reflected by the heat protection layer in the insulating glass and the summer heat does not get inside.

The panes can be darkened by up to 56 percent within 20 minutes - continuously. In this state, the light reflection is reduced by four percent, thereby minimising the glare. At the same time, the total energy flow is reduced by about a third. This means: Less of the radiant energy comes into the space behind the glass pane.

Due to the electrochemistry, an innovative sun protection is implemented directly in the glass. This eliminates the need for conventional maintenance-intensive shading systems. At the same time, smart energy management is possible directly on the facade. In this way, an optimal indoor climate can be achieved without expensive and energy-intensive air conditioning systems.
